There’s been some high profile publicity for Enterprising Limpsfield (the company set up to acquire The Bull pub in Oxted, Surrey), with it recently being featured on the front cover of industry-leading publication The Caterer. The associated article by Neil Gerrard, published both in the magazine and online, features director Adrienne Bloch, general manager, Jessica Hurren, and head chef, Tommy Pring.

In 2017, the Bull pub and restaurant in the village of Limpsfield – which had been at the heart of community life for hundreds of years – was put up for sale. Locals feared it would be snapped up by housing developers and closed permanently to the public, so a small group, led by Adrienne Bloch, decided to take on a new challenge...

Sensing the opportunity to transform the imposing 16th Century inn, they formed Enterprising Limpsfield, a company that aims to create a gastronomic community hub, promoting entrepreneurship, local supply chains, and creating jobs. In order to purchase and refurbish the pub, the company raised capital by engaging with the village and wider communities.

‘When it came to raising the money to achieve all of this, Bloch and her fellow directors decided to conduct a private fundraising exercise using crowdfunding platform Growthdeck. They garnered support from 280 investors, many of them local, who between them have put up £1.3m to purchase and completely refurbish the pub.’

Growthdeck helped to facilitate the raise by providing a private platform for securing investment, as well as full client service support, custodial services and Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) certification (a private fundraise service offered for the likes of local community initiatives and early-stage businesses).

Adrienne Bloch comments: ”Growthdeck provided a seamless and professional service that enabled us to raise over £1m from our local network with minimal fuss. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to businesses or ventures looking to handle their own fundraise.“
