A huge ‘congratulations’ to portfolio company Kelda Technology for recently being crowned one of the winners at The Building Innovation Awards, which has been created to celebrate the most innovative products, services and tech reshaping the UK construction industry. Whilst it remains a sector steeped in tradition and age-old practices, these awards recognise the technology and techniques that are not only boosting productivity and profits but also delivering greener, smarter and safer solutions.

Announced at the Midland Hotel in Manchester on 23rd October, Kelda picked up 'Most Innovative New Product (Hardware)' for its water-in-air shower system which reduces water consumption, energy consumption and carbon emissions by at least 50% compared to traditional showers, without compromising shower experience.

Please see The Building Innovation Awards website for a full list of winners across all categories.

Kelda has come a long way since our original fundraise in 2016 – and we’re proud to have worked closely with the business in developing its business plan and raising significant funding (over £2m in total) to help the team deliver their ambitious growth plans. New CEO, Richard White, is an industry veteran who has quickly had an impact in terms of improving product design, product costs and the sales process since coming on board, following previous roles such as CEO of Bristan Group and President/CEO of Kohler Kitchen and Bathroom Europe.

Kelda’s showers are now installed in several gyms and leisure centres across the UK – with trials underway with prospects from sectors as diverse as student accommodation, hotels, cruise ships and water utilities – and it has received excellent feedback from the likes of Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL), the largest provider of sports and leisure facilities in the UK (‘a proposal that sounded almost too good to be true. The reality was far greater’).

Building on this outstanding feedback, a brand new Kelda case study for The London Aquatics Centre (LAC) – one of the most technologically advanced and stunning swimming facilities in the world and home of the 2012 London Legacy, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park – has recently been published.

In partnership with GLL, Engie and the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), Kelda Technology was selected to install its innovative shower systems within the training pool area. By installing Kelda’s patented shower panel the LAC was able to save 37.5% in water and energy savings, while improving shower experience by 125%. In survey feedback, 100% of users preferred a Kelda shower system to the previously installed conventional shower, with all users recommending that they should be installed across the entire complex.
