Earlier this month, our colleague Sylvia Lennon, who is a Relationship Director in our Business Development team, took part in the CEO Sleepout in Milton Keynes to help fight homelessness and poverty in the area.
With the CEO Sleepout series of events, which take place across the UK, business leaders join forces for one night, giving up the comfort of a warm bed for someone who doesn't have one. Donning woolly hats, gloves and sleeping bags, senior executives sleep out in the open air, braving the bitter elements. The aim is to raise both awareness and funds, with the latter being put to use in each of the host cities, and over £2.7m has been raised by the charity since it was set up in 2013.
Sylvia comments on her experience:
“Spending the night at a freezing temperature in a sleeping bag was a truly humbling experience. I am delighted to have helped raise some much needed funds for homeless people and the young people who will take up residence at the YMCA, with the aim of transforming their lives and keeping them off the streets. I have reflected on the experience many times since and feel proud to be part of a business community prepared to help disadvantaged people locally and beyond. My colleagues at Growthdeck were super supportive and helped me reach the top 5% of funders on Just Giving for the month of November.”
A fantastic achievement – well done, Sylvia!
