Building on 18 months of work carried out in partnership with Google Cloud Platform, our portfolio company Arkivum – a leading international specialist in digital archiving and preservation – has been awarded one of the two final places in the pilot phase for the high-profile ARCHIVER project.

ARCHIVER awards

Launched in June 2020 by a multinational scientific buyer group led by CERN (operator of the Large Hadron Collider near Geneva), the ARCHIVER project aims to achieve radically improved archiving and digital preservation for petabyte-scale data-intensive research. Supporting the IT requirements of European scientists, ARCHIVER will provide end-to-end archival and preservation services for the vast and ever-growing datasets generated by world-renowned research institutions.

This is a fantastic result for Arkivum, which successfully completed both the design and prototyping phases of ARCHIVER before reaching the third and final stage of this prestigious project.

Arkivum works with businesses, often in highly regulated industries like scientific research and pharmaceuticals, to address the data archiving problems that tech consultancy Forrester has described as a ‘ticking time-bomb’. Arkivum helps to ensure that any data being collected remains accessible, secure and usable for decades into the future. Its specialist software and services are chosen by prominent institutions and commercial organisations as they take their digital transformation to the next level and ensure compliance with all professional and regulatory standards.

In August 2021 Growthdeck led a £1.575m EIS-qualifying equity fundraise for Arkivum, completed in conjunction with existing investors IP Group and Parkwalk. The funding is being used to grow Arkivum’s business development and sales function, as well as accelerate its product development.

Allyson Clarke, from our Business Development team, says:

“It was an immense privilege working closely with Chris Sigley (CEO), Barney Quinn (Chairman), and the rest of Arkivum’s intelligent, diligent, detail-oriented and dynamic team on the fundraise last year.”

“I’m delighted that they have now been selected for the final phase of this project – they are leaders in their field, and this has been recognised by everyone behind ARCHIVER.”

“The Growthdeck team are really proud of what Arkivum has achieved, and we’re really looking forward to seeing the business continue to grow in the coming years.”
