We are pleased to announce that we have completed a fundraise for Hydrologiq, a CleanTech company supporting the drive towards net zero by streamlining the transition from diesel to hydrogen for off-grid power.

Currently reliant on diesel generators, the off-grid machinery market faces pressure to reduce carbon emissions, air and noise pollution, and environmental risks like fuel spills and deforestation linked to biofuels.

Hydrogen offers a cleaner solution but numerous factors make widespread adoption and operation at scale a significant challenge for major industries such as construction and film.

Named as a 10 Top Hydrogen Innovator by Sustainable Ventures, Hydrologiq addresses this issue by making it easy to integrate and operate hydrogen and electrification technologies to replace diesel at scale. It does this through HydrologiqOS.

HydrologiqOS is the operations platform for hydrogen, built on Hydrologiq’s proprietary, patent-pending software and hardware. It is the one place to manage all hydrogen operations and is built to give fuel suppliers, fleet owners, and end operators the complete real-time view of their hydrogen assets and on-the ground operations. It makes hydrogen a seamless, turnkey and scalable solution to replace diesel.

The company has already completed projects with major clients such as Toyota, Costain, Balfour Beatty, Sunbelt, a top two streaming service and a household name machinery manufacturer.

The funding from Hydrologiq’s new pre-Seed round will drive the conversion of the company’s £3.2m sales pipeline comprised of leading blue-chip customers. It will enable the company to expand its software product offering to fuel suppliers, capturing a rapidly growing segment of the market conducting hydrogen operations, and allow management to invest in product development, sales, and delivery capability.

The Hydrologiq team includes:

  • Aran Bates (CEO and Co-founder), a former innovation and strategy consultant with PA Consulting and Deloitte, where he led major projects for UK blue-chips, including Rolls Royce Aerospace, Gillette, and BAE Systems.
  • Ben Lindley (COO and Co-founder), a multi-time founder with international commercial experience in cleantech with solar energy installers and retailers.
  • See Wah Cheng (Head of Product), who has over 20 years’ experience building market-leading software products and was previously Director of Product for UK unicorn Onfido.
  • Mark Bailey (Advisor), the ex-CCO of UK publicly-listed fuel manufacturer AFC Energy who previously held senior roles at GDF, Connected Energy, Engie and Engie New Ventures.
  • Jeremy Jowett (Advisor), the ex-Investment Director of leading UK rental company Speedy Services, who has advised the board of Sunbelt Rentals, and held board and senior positions at other leading UK rental companies.

Simon Emary, our Head of Portfolio, says:

“Hydrologiq has achieved a unique market position – providing a much-needed and safe end-to-end solution that integrates a fragmented, complex and regulated supply chain.”

“Its customers describe the main benefits as being analogous to how the Windows operating system revolutionised ease of use and efficiency for computing, which was previously very expensive, difficult and required multiple experts to build and operate cumbersome hardware.”

“It’s exciting to be backing the team and their plans to help decarbonise the $20.4bn global off-grid diesel generator market.”
